What are the business benefits of third-party verification of environmental data?

KERAMIDA, a CDP Global Gold Verification Provider, recently co-wrote the CDP report: The business benefits of third-party verification of environmental data. KERAMIDA’s Dr. Albert Chung, Senior Vice President of Sustainability and Climate Services, contributed his insight and expertise on third-party verification to the whitepaper.

GHG Verification & Assurance

What is the process for GHG emissions verification?

  1. Our first step is conducting interviews with key personnel involved in the process of compiling, calculating, and preparing the emissions data report and energy data. For every new engagement, it is critical to understand how that specific company processes data because every company does it differently.

  2. Next, KERAMIDA reviews the data in support of key disclosures in the emissions report and energy disclosure and conducts a variety of data analytics to check the reasonableness of the data and calculations. This data analytics check also provides a measure of anomalous data as well as an indicator of risks and opportunities for the Client in their GHG disclosure.

  3. Based on KERAMIDA's experience and guidance from various verification protocols, a variety of re-calculation procedures to confirm stated quantities are conducted, and the reasonableness of any assumptions used in support of disclosures is evaluated.

  4. Throughout the project, KERAMIDA works with the Client to improve its disclosures and data management if any material findings are discovered. By the end of the verification project, all material findings should be resolved, resulting in an improved GHG disclosure and favorable verification opinion.
