Technical Support for Indianapolis 2012 Sustainability Report

Overview:

KERAMIDA provided technical support to Indianapolis’ Office of Sustainability in 2013 as the city became one of 31 pilot communities to implement the STAR Community Index ratings system, a framework for measuring and reporting municipal leadership in sustainability encompassing the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of an entire community.

Project Details:

On behalf of the city, KERAMIDA coordinated and engaged numerous stakeholders, ultimately reaching out to hundreds of individuals and organizations, both within the City and in the greater community, to collect the required information for this sustainability reporting project.

KERAMIDA collected and consolidated information on various Indianapolis sustainability initiatives, policies, and programs; potential projects were recommended, including policy revisions, which could benefit the overall sustainability and livability of the broader Indianapolis community.

KERAMIDA also developed methods of in-depth spatial analysis of the sustainability of various Indianapolis neighborhoods that are now being used by other STAR program participants. At the conclusion of the project, KERAMIDA transferred the populated online data tool to city staff for use during future recertification efforts.

As a part of Indianapolis’ STAR efforts, KERAMIDA helped the City of Indianapolis’ Office of Sustainability rewrite the City’s annual sustainability report to better align with the STAR framework. KERAMIDA drafted the content of the report, working with the City’s public relations firm on final formatting and presentation.  The result was a more comprehensive and informative document that highlighted the best of the City’s efforts to make Indianapolis a more livable community.
