Project Details:
As part of a real estate transaction, SPG was responsible for the remediation of the environmental issues associated with the project. The issues included:
PCBs
Lead
Hazardous Chemicals
Asbestos
Petroleum
Chlorinated Solvents
The project was time-sensitive, as the new owner wanted to demolish the old structure and begin construction of a new retail and residential community.
KERAMIDA developed the plans and specifications, managed the bidding and award of the remediation contract. In addition, KERAMIDA performed the project management and the oversight of the work at the site.
With close coordination between the new owner and the current owner, KERAMIDA successfully completed a complex environmental project in a short amount of time.
The project included the removal of over 7,000 tons of contaminated soil, almost 600 cubic yards of asbestos, and 100 gallons of PCBs containing oil. In addition, all the bulbs and ballasts associated with an over 80,000 square foot urban mall were removed.
KERAMIDA monitored and worked closely with the contractor to ensure proper manifesting and removal to the appropriately licensed landfills. Documentation of all waste and disposal was included in the monthly reports to the owner. In addition, a summary final report with all the information was provided to the owner as part of the project close-out documents.
Teaming with representatives from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, KERAMIDA developed the standards that the project would be required to meet for the Elective Site Clean-up Agreement. This also included working closely with representatives of U.S. EPA Region 6 to develop the standards.
