Sustainability & Climate Action Plan for City of Prairie Village, Kansas

Target: Net-Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050

Project Details:

KERAMIDA is working with the City of Prairie Village, Kansas, to develop a Comprehensive Sustainability Program that will provide a cost-effective and science-based pathway to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Project highlights include:

  • Greenhouse Gas Inventory

  • Climate Scenario Summary

  • Community Engagement

  • GHG Reduction Roadmap

  • Sustainability Program Management Plan

KERAMIDA conducted a Data Review to understand all relevant City Plans and identify where sustainability synergies and opportunities exist. KERAMIDA created a greenhouse gas inventory for Prairie Village's municipal operations from 2018-2022. Climate vulnerabilities and risks in Prairie Village were identified and assessed to create a final Climate Scenario Summary to align the communities' current GHG emissions with RCP scenarios to project future climate trends within the city.

KERAMIDA worked with Prairie Village to develop a list of peer cities and performed a benchmarking assessment that compares key climate and resilience-related plans and legislation. KERAMIDA has completed several municipal staff interviews, presented to the City Council, and hosted a Council Engagement Session to elicit feedback and assess the municipality's capacity for collective action toward addressing the reduction target. KERAMIDA is currently working with Prairie Village to assist their municipal staff with completing their annual CDP Report Submission.

Upon completion, KERAMIDA will have conducted feasibility interviews with municipal staff, developed a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Roadmap, and developed a final Sustainability Program Management Plan. The final deliverable will outline the steps that Prairie Village will need to take to advance sustainability, possible funding sources where applicable, responsible parties, and interdependencies of each step.
