Phase I ESA and Archaeological Survey for Indianapolis Airport Authority
Overview:
KERAMIDA performed a complex and multi-faceted Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) which also required an Phase IA Field Reconnaissance Archaeological Survey.
Project Details:
For this Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, the Indianapolis Airport Authority hired KERAMIDA to assess a large, 111 acre, multi-parcel site which was vacant but had formerly been used for agricultural purposes and had several unused agricultural buildings on site. The unique property had wetlands on-site in numerous locations and forms, and had experienced a nearby petroleum spill. The site had previously been inspected for total petroleum hydrocarbons and extended range organics (TPH-ERO). The site was also in the unique position of being adjacent to several large industrial facilities.
KERAMIDA completed the Phase I report in accordance with the ASTM E 1527-13 standard, and analyzed soil type, wells present on site, and any utilities present which would facilitate contaminant transport. Our detail-oriented team analyzed this information to determine the presence of any Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs). Based on the presence or absence of RECs, KERAMIDA made recommendations to the client regarding further investigation or remediation in the conclusion of our ESAs.
In the course of this particular Phase I ESA, KERAMIDA also contracted with a professional archaeologist to perform an archaeological records review and a Phase IA Field Reconnaissance of the property. This archaeological study was conducted in accordance to and in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and Guidelines for Archaeology and Historic Preservation (48 FR 44716), the current Guidebook for Indiana Historic Sites and Structures Inventory - Archaeological Sites issued by the IDNR, DHPA, and recent amendments to the Indiana Historic Preservation Act (IC 14-21-1).
