Overview:

Steel Dynamics is one of the largest domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the United States, with facilities located throughout the United States, and in Mexico. Beginning in July 2018, KERAMIDA assisted Steel Dynamics with their goal of publishing their inaugural Sustainability report within a compressed timeframe.

Project Details:

KERAMIDA began by providing GRI, CDP and SASB training to Steel Dynamics’ staff.

KERAMIDA then completed the following tasks:

• Evaluated Client’s sustainability context, impacts, material aspects, key stakeholders and existing communications

• Gathered and evaluated recent sustainability communications of Client’s peers

• Benchmarked Client against sustainability communications of key competitors

KERAMIDA made strategic recommendations on reporting frameworks to adopt (including GRI, CDP, SASB, etc.), content to feature, and established a timeline for report development. KERAMIDA’s Sustainability professionals worked alongside Steel Dynamics’ Communications consultant on strategic themes and report layout.

KERAMIDA audited final versions of the Steel Dynamics’ Sustainability report for compliance with GRI Standards’ requirements. KERAMIDA advised Client on the use of GRI’s “in accordance” options and GRI’s “referencing” option.
